Michael Matthews & Associates was founded by Michael (Mike) Matthews over 20 years ago and we have grown into a highly successful firm with five professional attorneys, two of whom are partners.
MICHAEL MATTHEWS BPROC (UCT)
After spending the first part of his life in Zimbabwe, Mike studied at UCT and qualified in 1983. After 12 successful years in partnership at C & A Friedlander, Mike formed his own practice in 1997. Mike specialises in commercial law and disputes, High Court litigation, Labour Law, Wills and the Administration of Deceased Estates. When he is not working, his hobbies include doting over his grandchildren, mountain-biking, creative writing and motorcycling.
DAMIAN ENSLIN BA LLB (UNISA)
Damian is a qualified Attorney, Notary and Conveyancer who has been a partner at the firm since 2004 and who, in common with his colleagues, is passionate about service. Damian specialises in conveyancing and property-related law, including freehold and sectional title ownership, and mortgage bond registrations. Damian also specialises in legal issues relating to the Firearms Control Act of 2000 and is able to assist with firearm licence applications, appeals, accreditation of sports shooting bodies and businesses. Security companies can also call Damian to assist with compliance issues as well as with license applications. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking and is a firearm fundi.
ANDREA ENGLe BSOCSCI LLB (UCT)
Andrea obtained a Bachelor of Social Sciences (political sciences and law) and LLB at UCT and was admitted as an attorney in December 2020. She joined the firm in March 2021 as head of our estate department and specializes in estate administration, estate planning and the legal structuring of trusts. She also attends to commercial law and litigation.
DAVID SZÖKE LLB (UNISA)
David was admitted as an attorney in November 2020 and joined our firm as an associate in March 2021. He enjoys a diverse practice that includes litigation, contracts, and firearm-related matters. Passionate about property, David is also an aspiring conveyancer and notary. In his spare time, David enjoys reading and practising at the local shooting range.
NEILL LANG BSOCSCI LLB (UCT) BSOCSCI HONS (SACAP)
Neill joined our firm in January 2020 as a Candidate Attorney and was admitted as an Attorney in early 2022. Neill completed a Bachelor of Social Sciences at the University of Cape Town, followed by an Honours degree in Psychology at the South African College of Applied Psychology, before returning to UCT to complete his postgraduate LLB. Neill is fortunate to be gaining a broad range of experience in our varied departments and has a keen interest in general litigation, contract and commercial law and drafting, as well as being interested in labour law and estates. In his free time, Neill enjoys reading, hiking and playing hockey.
